St. Peterburg: Florida Orchestra

The Florida Orchestra is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year. This past weekend my boyfriend and I went to the Pops in the Park Concert at Vinoy Park in St. Peterburg. The weather was absolutely perfect. It was windy for sure, but it kept the bugs and the humidity away.
I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, but I haven’t spent much time in the St. Petersburg area. It’s a busy area with loads of restaurants, shops, and art museums. The marina is full of yachts and sailboats, which made for a beautiful sunset as we walked to the park.
The park was packed. People set up picnic dinners and drank wine as the pre-show chorus sang. Kids where running and rolling in the grass. Some people set up hammocks between the palm trees. It couldn’t have been a more peaceful place. The music ranged from classics like Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 to Harry Potter and then ending the with an homage to the late Carry Fisher by playing the Star Wars Throne Room song.
We opted to try food from the food trucks. We sampled something from almost all the locations. The yogi fries from The Twisted Indian truck were my favorite. The fries were filled with flavor. They did get a bit soggy toward the bottom, but the curry flavor was something I wouldn’t have normally paired with French fries.
The night was an easy date night idea filled with food, people watching, music, and good company.
