Monthly Round-Up: Rose & Thorns – December 2021

December Rose & Thorns – A monthly recap of the highs and lows experienced each month.

Rose: New Job!

This wasn’t on my 2021 vision board. I officially won’t start until after the new year, but I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. While I am sad to leave my current role, I’m excited to move forward in my career. Currently, I’m fighting a growing list of things to do before leaving versus the list of new hire requirements. This new role will provide new challenges and opportunities for continued growth in the long run.

Thorn: Postponed Christmas

The Christmas season can quickly become overwhelming. Coordinating different schedules, times, locations, are we exchanging gifts or playing white elephant, do we need to eat before we show up, or are we eating dinner together? All of these questions must be carefully arranged for a seamless holiday season. This year everything was laid out like a well-timed train schedule. Everything was running smoothly until the day before we planned our family gathering, and our punctual train ran off the tracks.

One by one, my sibling and their partners called in sick. Taking precautions, we’ve decided to postpone our family gathering until after the new year. I certainly don’t want to catch the slightest sniffle if I can help it. I mean, who says you have to celebrate a holiday on the actual day? As long as we are under the same roof, the date on the calendar is irrelevant.

Rose: 100th Post

I first dipped my toe into documenting parts of my life in 2017. I was stuck in an awful job and looking for a creative outlet. As time passed, I got a better job, and I forgot about this little piece of the internet I carved out for myself. Fast forward to 2020, my brain was on the verge of melting down from boredom. I decided to dust off my keyboard and slowly share my everyday life and travels. Since 2020, my focus on writing has become more focused on travel and experiences. As I sit at my keyboard today, I’m proud of how far this blog has taken me. Each week I still get excited to research how to make further improvements; whether on SEO, writing, or expanding viewership, every aspect is a welcomed challenge.

So here’s to my 100th blog post! I look forward to writing hundreds more!

Favorites of the Month

Shoe Obsessed – To be fair I needed new shoes. Spending time outside running, hiking, or just doing my job has forced me into buying better-quality shoes to protect my feet. It’s been a journey of many miles with blistered and bruised feet to get to the point where I am willing to invest in the proper shoes. This month I unintentionally bought a pair of shoes for every outdoor activity. I recommend checking any of the shoes below if you’re looking to start the new year on the right foot.
